Title: PIGGYBOOK

Author: Anthony Browne

Type of this book: Picture Book

Protagonist: Mrs. Piggott

Antagonist: Mr. Piggott, and his sons-- Patrick, Simon

Summary:

There was a happy family, whose last name was Piggott, Mr. Piggott, Mrs. Piggott, and their son

-- Simon and Patrick.    Every morning before Mr. Piggott went to work, Simon and Patrick went to school.    They would do nothing and sat in front of the dining table, and just asked Mrs. Piggott to serve the breakfast quickly.    After they left home, Mrs. Piggott started to do house chores and then went to work.    Every evening after the boys and husband came home from their school and job.    They started to request Mrs. Piggott to cook dinner faster. After dinner, Mr. Piggott and his two sons still did nothing, but sitting a couch and watching TV.      Day after day, something happened when the father and his two sons got home in the evening, they found Mrs. Piggott left home without telling them in advance and left a note written: " You're pigs."

Without Mrs. Piggott, they began to do everything by themselves.

They realized that they always took her hard-working as granted, and never shown their gratitude.

At the end of this story, Mrs. Piggott went home, Mr. Piggott and children started to learn how to do housework, such as cooking, making the bed, doing ironing... and so on.

Mrs. Piggott was happy to see her sons and husband were willing to change.

My reflections:

This book is absolutely awesome!  The illustrations are delicate, every page of drawings has its own meaning. For example, the boys opened their mouths widely while the father read the newspaper,  it shows the requirements from the children and the father's stony silence. Furthermore, we could find little pigs everywhere, in the beginning, we could find it on the cover of a cereal. However, while it revealed the father's and children's ingratitude and laziness more, the more they became pigs. It is a great skill to tell a story!   The author not only brings readers to realize the importantness of house chores sharing, but also reveals the common stereotype of a mother's work. I think it not only an adorable picture book for children but also an educational book for everyone.
